George HunterCanadian, 1921 - 2013

Photographer George Hunter was born in Regina and grew up in Winnipeg. He began making photographs when he was 16, on a trip to London, England for the coronation of George VI. This trip not only ignited his love of photography but also his wanderlust and sense of adventure. By the 1930s, the demand for photographs for the daily press and illustrated magazines had increased to such a degree that being a photographer became a viable way to earn a living - Hunter had found his vocation. Over the course of more than six decades, he has worked as a press photographer, a documentary photographer, a commercial photographer, and a travel photographer, covering a period of intense nation-building, economic and industrial activity and, of course, photographic activity in Canada.
