Jan WeissenbruchDutch, 1822 - 1880

Exponent of Dutch realism who specialized in townscapes. He co-founded the Pulchri Studio in The Hague in 1847 and The Hague Etching Club in 1848. When the popularity of his realistic style began to wane in 1870, he retired from painting entirely.

According to the RKD (Netherlands Institute for Art History) and ULAN he was the cousin of Jan Hendrik Weissenbruch (Dutch, 1824 - 1903) and the older brother of the painters Isaac Hendrik (1826 - 1912) and Frederik Hendrik (1828-1887)
