He was the son of one of Robert Adam's assistants. He is probably most noted for his work related to the theater, particularly Shakespearean theater (e.g. 23 large paintings he did for John Boydell's Shakespeare Gallery). He was also an accomplished draftsman and illustrator, illustrating many books of poetry. British glass painter.
