ProvenanceThis lithograph showcases two men standing near a curtain. The man on the right is a servant and announces the presence of the other man, who is, according to the title, a new nobleman. This nobleman carries a pretentious look on his face, perhaps in an attempt to associate with the upper classes. The expression “bois flotte” usually refers to a long journey.
